On Monday afternoon, Stephen Nolan spoke on the topic of Growth Mindsets at the latest Staff Research Seminar. After introducing the concept, the talk focussed on the applicability of this theory of mind to the learning environment at The Perse. There is some evidence to suggest that for those students who identify strongly with their academic performance there is no benefit to adopting a growth mindset (Niiya et al). Whilst there are potential benefits to Perse pupils adopting a growth mindset, there is clearly a need for research to be considered fully (particularly in the school context) before adopting new ideas wholesale.
